Privacy Policy

Documents you open in WarpRead’s tools are processed entirely inside your browser. PDFs, Word documents and pasted text are parsed by JavaScript running on your own device. They are never uploaded to a server, never stored by us, and never seen by anyone else. The same is true of everything you type into the study tools — flashcards, notes, essay plans and timers all save to your own browser’s storage.

WarpRead does, however, use third-party analytics to understand how the site is used, and it carries third-party advertising. Those services set cookies and collect data about your visit. This page explains exactly which ones, and how to opt out.

WarpRead does not ask you to create an account, and it does not collect your name, email address or payment details.

The following never leaves your browser. It is not transmitted to WarpRead or to anyone else, and we cannot read it:

• Files you open in the speed reader — .pdf, .docx and .txt documents are parsed locally and held in memory.
• Text you paste into the reader or any of the writing tools.
• Anything you enter into the study tools — flashcard decks, Cornell notes, essay outlines, thesis drafts, mind palace entries, study plans and timer settings. These are saved in your browser’s localStorage so they are still there when you return on the same device and browser.
• Your display preferences — reading speed, font choice and dark mode — also stored in localStorage.

Clearing your browser’s site data removes all of it permanently. Because we never receive a copy, we cannot restore it for you — use each tool’s export, copy or print option if you want a durable backup.

Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.

Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, at youronlinechoices.eu.

Advertising on WarpRead is managed by Mediavine through its Journey by Mediavine programme. Mediavine and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, including ads based on your interests. Exactly what Mediavine collects and shares, and how to opt out, is set out in full in the Mediavine Advertising Privacy Notice at the end of this page.

If any additional third-party advertising vendors or ad networks serve ads on WarpRead, they will be named on this page, with a link to their own policy and opt-out.

Three analytics services run on this site. All three are disclosed here in full.

Vercel Analytics records aggregate page views and performance timings. It is designed to work without cookies and without cross-site identifiers, and it does not build a profile of you. See the Vercel privacy policy.

Microsoft Clarity records how people interact with pages — clicks, scrolling and mouse movement — and can replay anonymised sessions so we can find usability problems. Clarity sets cookies and processes data on Microsoft’s servers. It is configured to mask text content by default, but you should assume that your interactions with the page are recorded. Google Analytics 4 measures page views, traffic sources and how visitors move around the site. It sets first-party cookies to recognise returning visits. Data is processed on Google’s servers. Google signals and ads personalisation are switched off, so this data is not used to show you ads. If you are in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, neither Google Analytics nor Microsoft Clarity loads at all until you choose “Accept analytics” in the banner. If you reject, or don’t answer, no request is made to either service. We rely on your consent for this (UK GDPR and EU GDPR Article 6(1)(a), and the cookie rules in PECR and the ePrivacy Directive). Everywhere else they load by default. Wherever you are, you can switch them off with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page, which also deletes their cookies.

Google and Microsoft may process this data in the United States. Both are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, its UK Extension and the Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework.

None of these services receives the contents of files you open in the reader, because those files never reach the network at all.

Grow, a service run by Mediavine, adds a small widget to every page that lets you bookmark articles, see recommended content and, if you choose, sign up for a Grow account or a newsletter. To do this Grow loads a script from Mediavine’s servers, sets cookies and browser storage, and records the pages you visit on this site. If you create a Grow account or subscribe through it, the email address and preferences you give are held by Mediavine, and they may be used to show you personalised ads if you consent to that.

Grow is operated by Mediavine, Inc. under its own privacy notices. See the Mediavine legal and privacy center, which also explains how to request access to or deletion of data held about you as a Grow user.

The classic books in the library are fetched from Project Gutenberg when you open one, and cached in your browser afterwards. Cover images and some decorative photography are loaded from Project Gutenberg and Pexels. Loading an image or a book file means your browser contacts those services directly, and they will see your IP address and browser details as a result.

If you are in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before any advertising or analytics cookies that require it are set. Analytics consent is asked by WarpRead’s own banner, and you can change or withdraw it at any time through “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. Once advertising runs on the site, advertising consent is asked by Mediavine’s banner and can be changed through its “Update Privacy Settings” link. You can also block cookies entirely in your browser settings.

Under the UK GDPR and the EU GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Because WarpRead holds no account and stores nothing that identifies you on its own servers, most of these rights are exercised directly against the third parties named above, or simply by clearing your browser storage. For anything else, get in touch.

If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected and to opt out of its sale or sharing. WarpRead itself does not sell personal information, but the advertising Mediavine manages on this site does involve the sale or sharing of personal information for interest-based advertising, as described in the Mediavine notice below. Where required, a “Do Not Sell or Share My Information” link appears at the bottom of the home page.

WarpRead is not directed at children under 13, and personalised advertising is not served to users identified as under 13.

If the services used on this site change — a new analytics tool, a different ad network — this page is updated before the change goes live, and the date at the top changes with it.
